The Hunting of the Snark – An Agony

May 17, 2012

In 1876 Lewis Carroll penned a delightful poem entitled The Hunting of the Snark – An Agony in Eight Fits about an absurd ship manned by a rather bizarre captain & crew.  With a slight liberty, the beginning of “Fit the Second” begins thus. I could not help noting the strong resemblance to our present POTUS and his  addled adherents.

The [One] himself they all praised to the skies —

Such a carriage, such ease and such grace!

Such solemnity, too! One could see he was wise,

The moment one looked in his face!

He had bought a large map representing the sea,

Without the least vestige of land:

And the crew were much pleased when they found it to be

A map they could all understand.

Indeed. Full speed astern.
